
The very first time I visited a Live Oscar Peterson concert was on 22nd September 1989 in my hometown Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
I was struck with the grace, musical ingenuity and power of his playing. Especially his own originals such as ‘Love Ballade’, ‘Wheatland’, ‘Nigerian Marketplace’ and ‘Peace for South Africa’ have made a great impression on me. After the concert I had a brief encounter with the Maestro in his dressing room backstage. Inspired by the overwhelming musical adventure and atmosphere of the concert, I had made up my mind to become a Jazz pianist myself...
And now - more than 20 years later - my main mission and passion is to keep the compositorial legacy of Oscar Peterson alive by adopting his original compositions into the foundations of my repertoire. And I will remain to do so... In the Spirit of Oscar Peterson...
